What is it used for?

Activation converts a solid compound inside the generator into an extinguishing aerosol that interrupts combustion reactions. Many systems use generators inside the protected space without a cylinder-and-pipe network.

  • Suitable electrical enclosures, machinery spaces and other manufacturer-listed hazards

What does it offer?

  • Compact, distributed suppression for suitable applications

Types and key differences

Where it belongs
This is a fixed suppression system, not a handheld extinguisher. Selection requires a reviewed enclosure design.

What needs checking before selection?

  • Aerosol is not a residue-free clean gas. Assess particles, visibility, discharge heat, clearances and equipment compatibility. Occupancy suitability is specific to the listed system.

Components and scope

  • Aerosol generators and mounting assemblies
  • Thermal or electrical activation, depending on the model
  • Detection, controls and warning interfaces where required

From survey to handover

  1. Survey the building and identify the hazard.
  2. Select compatible equipment and prepare the project design for the required review.
  3. Install, test and document the work; hand over operating information and a maintenance plan.

In Saudi Arabia, the design is reviewed against applicable Saudi Building Code requirements, including SBC 801, and the competent authority’s requirements. Capacity, quantities, coverage and testing follow the project design and manufacturer instructions. Safety licensing remains subject to the authority’s process through Salamah.
